Asalamu alaykum wa ra matullahi wabarakatu

My in laws family is very small, just the immediate family so if we have any small family function I find it necessary to invite my husband’s two aunties however my father in law does not agree with me inviting them as there have been past occasions where his (father in laws) sister had not invited them. I have not been brought up that way and family unity is very important to me. My husband himself disagrees with his father on the matter. What is the way forward?

You must be good with your husband's aunt. Send her some gifts and maintain a cordial contact.

With regards to the invitation, go by whatever your husband says. If he says that you must not invite them then explain to the husband about family unity etc. Explain to him that we all will leave the world some day. Maintenance of family ties is an important issue. If he doesn't agree then you are not sinful. Make the reason known to the aunt if she asks why she was not invited. Encourage her to join ties.
