Apple Boy

Last Updated on Wednesday, 07 October 2015 14:51

Ask our children:

1. Who comes first, our parents or our friends?

2. How should we treat our parents?

3. What should we do when our parents get old?

Now tell them the story:

There was once a little boy named Hanzalah. His favourite friend was a big apple tree. Every day he would play around the tree, climb its high branches, eat its red apples and rest under its cool shade. He loved the tree and the tree loved him. However, when the little boy grew up, he stopped visiting the tree. The tree missed him and became very, very lonely.

Ask your children:

1. Is it safe for children to be climbing up tall trees all alone?

2. Can we break fruit from a tree without the owner’s permission?

Now tell them the story:

Zaheer was a little boy who loved cherries. His parents, however, were quite poor and could not afford to buy those delicious-looking cherries when they were in season as cherries are pretty expensive. Despite it being almost impossible for Zaheer’s parents to buy even a small bunch of cherries, he still longed for them and wished to have them. Adding to his longing was the fact that his next door neighbour, Aqeel, had a huge cherry tree with plump, juicy bunches hanging from the branches.

Ask our children:

1. Who are our friends?

2. Why did we choose them to be our friends?

3. If our parents are not happy with our friends, what should we do?

Now tell them the story:

There was a playful little calf that always played with his friends; the tall giraffe, the short buffalo and the fat elephant. Because of his friends, his ways and manners began to change. He was no longer that warm and loving son he used to be. The mother cow became very worried, so she told him one day, “O my dear son! Your friends are not your real friends. They are just there because every day you share with them the fresh and tasty milk shake I make for you. You should rather make the little red sparrow your friend. He will help you when you need him.”

Ask our children:

1. If there are poor people around us, how should we treat them?

2. If we really want something, who should we turn to?

Now tell them the story:

Tasmiyah was an intelligent little girl who loved going to madrasah. She was in grade three and her favourite subject was Quraan. She loved reading the Quraan and she was a good reciter as well. Everything was so cheerful and joyful in her life. However there was only one thing that made her sad – her Quraan had no cover on it. She really wanted to cover it. In fact it was the only thing she wished for. Tasmiyah’s mother tried very hard to save up in order to buy one, but it was so hard to do so with the small income that came into the home. Tasmiyah had lost her father a few days after she was born. He was a passionate lover of the Quraan and passed away whilst reciting the Quraan. He left the world, but his passion for the Quraan continued to live in the heart of his one and only daughter, Tasmiyah.
