Why do we make Qurbaani?

Last Updated on Saturday, 25 July 2020 15:22

Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) was a very great and special Nabi – he was known as ‘Khaleelullah’ which means ‘the special friend of Allah Ta‘ala’.

Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) always wanted to have children, but for years and years and years, he did not have any children. Finally, when Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) had waited for a long, long time, and he was now 86 years old, Allah Ta‘ala blessed him with a beautiful baby boy – Nabi Ismaa‘eel (‘alaihis salaam).

A few years later, when Nabi Ismaa‘eel (‘alaihis salaam) was no longer a small baby, but was now a young boy, running around, playing and helping his father, Nabi Ebrahim (‘alaihis salaam) had a dream. In his dream, he saw that he took a knife, placed it on the throat of his beloved son, Nabi Ismaa‘eel (‘alaihis salaam) and slaughtered him!

Ask our children:

2. Are Muslims allowed to be jealous of other people?

3. If we are jealous of someone, what should we do?

Now tell them the story:

There was once a little girl named Juwairiyah who was very, very blessed by Allah Ta‘ala. Allah Ta‘ala had blessed her by making her pretty, intelligent, and giving her the best toys and clothes. But, even though Juwairiyah had the best of everything, she was always jealous of other people.

Ask our children:

1. If our parents or teachers scold us, what should we do?

2. If we do something wrong or make a mistake, what should we do?

Now tell them the story:

There was once a little girl named Saarah who was very helpful, very kind and very intelligent. However, her parents and teachers always complained that she had one problem – nobody could tell her anything!

If she was misbehaving and being naughty, and her father scolded her, she would immediately begin to cry! If she was being lazy and did not want to pack her toys, and her mother told her to stop being lazy, she would begin to tantrum and scream! Also, if she did not know her sabaq and her aapa told her to learn it again, she would start to cry!

Ask our children:

1. Where do sicknesses come from?

2. Who cures us when we are sick?

3. What should we do when we are sick?

Now tell them the story:

One day, Kareema was sitting in class when her teacher called out, “Listen up everyone! I have an announcement to make!” The entire class became quiet and all the girls listened very carefully to what the teacher was going to say.

The teacher said, “As many of you may have heard, there is a new sickness named the ‘Coronavirus’. This sickness is spreading through the whole world and thousands of people are becoming sick. We don’t want all of you falling ill, so school will be closed from tomorrow.”
