No Fear of Poverty

When Abdullah bin Mas`ood (radiyallahu anhu) was on his death bed, Uthmaan (radiyallahu anhu) who was the khalifah at that time asked him if he should fix a monthly allowance from the public treasury to assist his daughters after his demise. Abdullah bin Mas`ood (radiyallahu anhu) replied: “Do you fear poverty on my daughters? I have instructed them to recite Surah Waaqi`ah every night, and I heard Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) saying: “The one who recites Surah Waaqi`ah every night will never experience poverty.” (Shu`abul Imaan #2267/ Usdul Ghaabah vol. 3, pg. 77).This was the hallmark in the lives of the Sahaabah (radiyallahu anhum) that they had firm conviction upon the words of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). Hence they practised on the teachings of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wa sallam). Today we impress on our children the importance of degrees and professions.
While these are means of earning one’s livelihood, they have no guarantee. It is therefore necessary that we introduce our children towards the regular performance of salaah and daily recitation of the Quraan Majeed, the guaranteed means of drawing sustenance.
