Take a Break

Last Updated on Saturday, 17 December 2016 08:35

The Deen of Islam is complete and perfect. Hence Islam recognizes and caters for all the needs of a human being by showing him the Islamic way of attending to and fulfilling these various needs. Eating is a basic human need. Thus Islam not only allows us to eat but also gives us guidelines and teaches us the Islamic way of eating.

Among our basic, human needs is the need to occasionally ‘take a break’. Islam is not a ‘dry’ Deen and thus allows us to take a break when needed. However, just as we adhere to the guidelines laid down by Deen when fulfilling our other needs, we should also adhere to the laws and injunctions of Deen when fulfilling this need and ensure that it is done in a manner that is approved of in Islam.

Our Mother, Sayyidah Khadeejah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), grew up in the society of jaahiliyyah, which had sunk into the abyss of immorality and shameless acts, to such an extent that they would even inherit their own mothers. In this society, Sayyidah Khadeejah (radhiyallahu ‘anha) was given the title of At-Taahirah - The Pure and Chaste one. This title was afforded to her due to her extreme chastity and because she completely stayed away from the different immoral and wrong types of customs that were prevalent amongst the women of that time. (Sharhuz Zurqaani ‘alal Mawaahib, vol. 1, pg. 373 & vol. 4, pg. 363)

Lesson: This is a great lesson and inspiration for us who are living in a ‘sick’ community and society, where all around is only shamelessness and immorality, especially in these days of the so called holiday period.
